Brothers,
 

            We have worked hard in the month of September supporting events such as the Knights of Columbus Soccer Challenge. Special thanks to Brother Keith Atkins for heading the event, Brother Greg Adgate our youth chairman for being his backup and Brother Sal Spata for donating food and drinks for the volunteers from his restaurant Sal's Pizza in Broadlands. Our main fund raiser "Oatland Parking" on Saturday September 20th headed by Brothers Cliff Lapetoda and Steve Connors have doubled our income from last year on this event, which in turn helps fund the many charities we support.

 

            As these fine Brothers will tell you neither of these success stories for the month would be possible without the help and support from our many Brothers who volunteer to show up to get the job done! As we reflect upon this it becomes very clear that it is our commitment to our Brother Knights plea for help that make a huge measurable difference. This brings me to the topic below.

 

            With the next election rapidly approaching, many issues are being hotly debated in kitchens, offices, and of course in newspapers, on TV, and online. It’s important to remember that no issue is more central to our faith and to our Order than that of protecting innocent life. If you’ve been watching the news lately, you’ve probably noticed that a number of public figures have made statements regarding the Church’s teachings on protection of the unborn that are incorrect and have the potential to mislead the faithful.

 

            In response, our Supreme Knight, Carl A. Anderson, has written an open letter to Senator Joseph Biden reiterating and clarifying the teachings of the Catholic Church on these matters, and calling on Senator Biden to protect the lives of the unborn. It is a powerful statement about both what the Church teaches and why, and I would ask that every Knight take the time to read it, and share it with others.

 

            Let us remember that as Knights, we are called to defend life. Our Supreme Knight has given us a great example in his call to the powerful to stand in defense of life. Let us each find our own way to defend and protect the unborn, and to build a culture of life.
